INDIA SWINTON
India Swinton (b. 2000, UK) is a British/Australian artist. She moved with her family to the east coast of Australia in 2003, and travel between the UK, Asia, and Australia has shaped a strong sense of cultural connection and curiosity throughout her life and practice.
From an early age, Swinton was drawn to dreams and the subconscious as sources of symbol and meaning. She completed her Master of Fine Art at the National Art School, Sydney, in 2024, where her research explored ideas of transcendence in contemporary painting — situating her practice alongside artists such as Hilma af Klint, Georgiana Houghton, Emma Kunz, Gotthard Graubner, and Wolfgang Laib.
Working with acrylic paint on canvas and incorporating polyester filling, Swinton creates soft, pillow-like forms that blur the boundary between painting and object. Recent exhibitions include Soft Return at Lone Goat Gallery, Byron Bay (2026) and New Voices at CBD Gallery, Sydney (2025).
